Born 1958 in St. Louis, MO USA and began painting in 1968. I attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1980's and graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design 2020 (BFA, cum laude). I have had artwork exhibited on the East and West Coasts, Washington D.C., Chicago, and many other locations throughout the North America.
My philosophy is that (my) artwork is an extremely well crafted product. I manufacture an art product out of long lasting, high quality pigments and substrates, lightfast, non-toxic paints, heavy duty stretcher bars, fine cotton or linen canvas, (forever) lasting acrylic primer. Additionally, I use gallery wrapped canvases and continue the composition to the sides and slightly around to the back. I call my method 'Painting to the wall.' This finished work is thoroughly varnished. My paintings can be hung without framing- they are complete from all viewpoints. My artwork is created with historic endurance in mind.
Compositionally I reflect the long continuum of art history. Depending on the subject, my work often conveys historic art styles- from classical, impressionistic, expressionistic, cubist, and many more. With each new work comes a surprise of contemporary creative invention.
I do not teach anywhere at this time. I received my degree during the emergence of the Covid Pandemic and have just created art, as I have always done, on a steady basis. After graduation I relocated out of Milwaukee to north-central Illinois for its geographic proximity to art communities from Chicago, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, through Rockford to Freeport. I enjoy sharing my artistic knowledge and experience and would consider teaching others.
Since 2015, I have entered artwork hundreds of times and been juried into 74+ exhibits nationwide, and have been awarded two 1st Place Medals, and many Honorable Mentions.
