Rockford Area Arts Awards

The Rockford Area Arts Council, Mayor Thomas McNamara and Winnebago County Board Chairman Frank Haney hosted the 2018 Rockford Area Arts Awards (Formerly known as The Mayor’s Arts Awards) on Wednesday, February 21 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Rockford Art Museum, 711 N. Main Street, Rockford, IL.
Mayor John McNamara was in office when the Mayors Arts Awards began in 1989 and continued until 2014. With the election of Mayor Thomas McNamara, the arts awards have returned and expanded to include the Winnebago County Chairman. The awards were re-named “Rockford Area Arts Awards” [RAAA].
RAAA honors outstanding artists, arts advocates, and arts and cultural events. Nominees included: Meghan Baylor, Jenny Mathews, Sherry Pritz Enderle, Charles Prorok and Marcia Mueller, The Arc of Winnebago, Boone & Ogle Counties “Project Art,” Rockford Symphony Orchestra “Oz with Orchestra,” “The Rockford City Dance Festival,” and The Music Academy “Heartstrings: Connections Between Music & Medicine.”

Prior to the awards, attendees enjoyed viewing the Rockford Art Museum's Laura & John Fraser Collection while Jordan McDonald created an Electric Guitar Soundscape and Meghan and Caitlyn Baylor performed site specific dances throughout the Gallery.  Attendees were treated to appetizers by Abreo served by youth volunteers from RAAC's ArtsPlace and Arts Camp, and students from Auburn, East, Guilford and RVC.


Dennis Horton chaired the RAAA committee which included Margaret Hynes, Val Olafson, Barbara Bernie, and Toni Stratton.
