The Japanese in the 16th and 17th century developed a ceramic technique called RAKU. In the 20th and 21st centuries, two artists, father and son, with more than 55 years of experience in the ceramic field, took this process from the old world traditions of the Japanese and Americanized it through a form of ancient alchemy. The alchemist dream throughout time was to take a base metal and turn it into gold. Years of chemical and ceramic testing have produced a brilliant, stable gold glaze, seldom found in the art world today. In this case, the two modern day artists/alchemists successfully took silver and converted it into gold. Truly, all that glitters is gold…RAKU GOLD!
The RAKU Gold Pottery studio is located in Rockford, Illinois and their work is displayed in a variety of galleries in Illinois and Wisconsin. During the months of May through September their work can be seen at a variety of Art Shows throughout the Chicago Suburbs.  In the Rockford/Winnebago County area, RAKU Gold Pottery donates yearly to over 60 fundraisers and silent auctions including groups such as, Aids Care Network, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, ARC, Arthritis Foundation, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, CASA, Crusader Clinic, Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce, Easter Seals CDC, Epilepsy Foundation, Ethnic Heritage Museum, Family Counseling Services, Girls Scouts of the Rock River Valley, The Greater Rockford Airport, The Hunger Connection, The Literacy Council, M.D.A., The Mill, Illinois Growth Enterprises, Janet Wattles Center, Maria Linden,Mc Gaw Foundation, MELD, Midway Village, The New American Theatre, N.I.U.
