The Rockford Midwestern Biennial @ Rockford Art Museum

The 2018 Rockford Midwestern is the 75th presentation of Rockford Art Museum’s juried exhibition, which began in 1913 as an annual showcase of local artists, then expanded eligibility and was known as the Stateline Vicinity Show through 1998. Now a biennial show that surveys new work by contemporary artists across the Midwest, the competition is open to original artwork in any medium created since the last biennial by residents of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, or Wisconsin. Gallerist Aron Packer serves as this year’s juror. The last biennial featured 85 works by 78 artists selected from more than 600 submissions; painter Jeanne Ludeke received the 2016 Dean Alan Olson Purchase Award. Concurrent exhibits include the third annual Art in Bloom, a three-day event showcasing interpretive installations of floral and other organic material by local designers, inspired by select artwork juried into the feature exhibition.

Hononegah Woman’s Club 48th annual Arts & Craft Fair @ Settler's Park

The Hononegah Woman’s Club will present the 48th annual Arts & Craft Fair on the river in Settlers Park in Rockton, IL on Sunday, August 19th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The event features various artists and crafters, food from area vendors, 50/50 raffle and live music.

All proceeds will benefit the club’s service projects, which include scholarships and camperships for local students.

Movie Monday Film Series: Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock @ Rockford Art Museum

When Teri Horton, a 73-year-old former long-haul truck driver with an eighth-grade education, bought a painting for $5 at a thrift shop, she didn’t know it would put her against the highest and mightiest people in the art world and perhaps change forever the way art is authenticated.  (PG-13, 2006, 1 hr 14 min).
